Friday's high temperature reached 101 in Fort Wayne, eclipsing the previous record for the date of 99 set in 1988.
More records could fall Saturday before a cool front moves in and brings some relief. The National Weather Service is predicting a high of 86 by Sunday.
With the temperature spiking up to 100 degrees just before 2 p.m., McMillen Park was a busy place.
Pool capacity is 350. By 2:15 p.m. they hadn't had to turn anyone away, but the crowd was growing. Lifeguard Brandon Loshe, 22, and the other pool lifeguards had their hands full keeping an eye on the crowd and getting kids to follow procedure.
