Good news in the aftermath of a powerful storm system that, at the worst point, left tens of thousands of customers without power: The lights are back on.
According to a news release this evening from Indiana Michigan Power, the restoration was completed ahead of the late Sunday timeframe scheduled that the utility had predicted after another storm system knocked out the power of 10,000-plus customers on Thursday afternoon.
The original storm system, which hit Friday, June 29, pounded the area, snapping some trees in half or uprooting them, or knocking down branches. Damage to property and vehicles is extensive and cleanup is ongoing.
More than 100,000 customers in the Fort Wayne area were left without power due to the original storm system.
I&M, according to the news release, also said that any customers who do not have electric service should contact the utility at 1-800-311-4634, and it also thanked customers for being patient as temperatures reached triple digits at various points this week.
