'Voices of Unity' strikes gold in Popular Choral Music category

The Voices of Unity Youth Choir is having success in Cincinnati.

The local group has won a gold medal in the Popular Choral Music category at the 2012 World Choir Games, currently being held in Cincinnati. The choir also won a gold medal in this category at the 2010 games, which were held in Shaoxing, China.

Voices of Unity competed Saturday evening, according to a news release, and the results of the category were released Sunday morning. The release said that Voices of Unity earned 84.63 points, while South Africa's Stellenbosch University Choir earned 91.25 points, also being awarded a gold medal.

Dekoor Close Harmony of the Netherlands were named the Grand Champions in Popular Choral Music after earning 92.13 points. They also were awarded a gold medal and a trophy, according to the release.

Voices of Unity will perform this morning, live, on ABC's "Good Morning America." They are scheduled to sing at 8 a.m. The group will next compete on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the Gospel category, where they also won a gold medal in 2010.
