A 29-year-old Fort Wayne man pleaded guilty Monday to driving around with four children tied to the hood of his car earlier this year – a ride he said he thought would be fun for the kids.
Aaron Stefanski pleaded guilty to three felony counts of child neglect and endangerment and a felony charge of operating while intoxicated. The plea did not include 10 more assorted misdemeanors and infractions.
His sentencing has been scheduled for Aug. 3. The plea deal did not call for a specific sentence.
On the afternoon of May 7, a caller told police that Stefanski had strapped four children to the hood of his car and was driving south on Fairfield Avenue. When police reached the vehicle, Stefanski allegedly told them, "I was only going to drive around the corner. I thought they would like it," according to court papers.
The children were 4, 5, 6 and 7 years old at the time. The mother of one of the children, Jessica A. Clark, 29, also was with Stefanski and was charged with a single count of child neglect.
