The Indiana Tech women’s basketball program made steady progress under former coach Rodney Hamilton and the university hopes that trend will continue under its new coach.
Jessie Biggs was named as head coach of the Warrior program on Monday.
“We are happy to have Jessie as our new head coach,” Indiana Tech athletic director Martin Neuhoff said in a release.
Biggs has spent the past two seasons as the graduate assistant Coach at Western Illinois University and her responsibilities included on-court coaching, individual workouts, working with the guards, game preparation, scouting reports, film exchange, volunteering activities, and monitoring academic progress of the student-athletes.
“She is going to be a very solid addition to our current coaching staff,” Neuhoff said.
Biggs began her career as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Coe College, where she served for three seasons.
While at Coe, she helped start the junior varsity program, which she led for two years.
Biggs helped to recruit and coach four of the top five scorers in Coe history during her tenure. During her three seasons, the varsity team had a 53-28 record after winning just 21 games in the previous three years.
The Ottumwa, Iowa native played at the University of Northern Iowa, where she was a second team All-MVC selection during the 2006-07 season. Biggs earned the Northern Iowa Female Athlete of the Year honors the same year, while serving as a team captain.
As a freshman with the Panthers, Biggs was named to the MVC’s All-Freshman team and graduated as the program’s all-time leader in career starts with 107.
“We are excited to have her join the Indiana Tech family,” Nuehoff said. “Her experience and knowledge will direct the program in the right direction and take it to the next level.”
