Voter ID story fails on couple of key points
Your July 9 front page article by Mike Baker of The Associated Press titled “Fix Distorts Process” with the subtitle “Investigation shows that blocked votes far outnumber fraud cases” fails on a couple key points of logic. First, it fails to recognize that someone whose desire is to commit election fraud would likely be discouraged from such action by the ID requirement. Writer Baker made no effort to address that obvious logical result of voter ID laws.
Second, his statement, “The numbers suggest that legitimate votes rejected by the laws are far more numerous than are the cases of fraud,” is unsupported by the random quotes expressed in the story. True cases of fraud can be difficult or impossible to quantify. Further, it seems likely that in a short time most people will become aware of the law and learn the relative ease of obtaining photo ID, even for non-drivers.
If the AP is so eager to discredit the effectiveness of voter ID laws they need to argue a more logical case than the one presented by writer Baker.

Our city government must be in dire need of money. Looks like another tax increase right around the corner to cover more street repair people and equipment.
Potholes are bad enough, but those ditches 4 feet wide and 4 inches deep are killers. Whoever makes them don’t bother to set up signs, and they don’t return to fill them in for weeks.
I sure feel sorry for those motorcycle riders. It’s bad enough for people with small cars.
Please, city planners, have some regard for all of us poor taxpayers.
