Nothing wrong with it, but I hated article about Patty's passing
I hated your article announcing the passing of Mrs. Martone (Patty to most – I could never bring myself to call her that).
There was nothing inherently wrong with the article. It listed her professional experience and honors. Pretty much standard boilerplate when a prominent person passes away.
It did not list her more important achievements.
Our freshman-class English teacher, teaching in a room that she did not yet know was directly over the home the Hamilton sisters lived in. The smiling face who was the first person to ever pronounce Walchle (Walk-Lee) correctly. My cousin Bob was in her class years before. The encouragement she gave to a little girl in our class who would go on to be Dr. Sharon Banks, Michigan school superintendent of the year.

The only teacher at Central willing to kick up her heels at a school dance.
A good friend to my wife, Vicky, through their work with Chapter One and PTA. Vicky called her Patty. The prized guest speaker at Portage Middle School Father’s and Mother’s Breakfasts.
The beloved guest speaker and friend at the Class of 1965 reunions. She and her husband, Tony, could always be counted on to bring a smile to everyone. She introduced him as “my boyfriend” when he wasn’t “my quarterback.”
Mostly I hated the article because it meant we would never be with her again.

Fort Wayne should acquire Aqua Indiana
I have been following with interest the recent media discussions of the chronic inability of Aqua Indiana Corporation to provide adequate water for the citizens of Fort Wayne and Allen County who live in the Aboite area. It is bothersome to see the company blame those who reside in Aboite for the problem.
Here’s my solution: Fort Wayne City Utilities should acquire Aqua Indiana based on, for example, the average of three reasonable appraisals. Then the good citizens of Aboite will be provided higher quality water at a lower cost (this has been well-documented) and water will actually be available when it is needed.

A big, big thanks to all the volunteers who helped make the Arcola Volunteer Fire Department tractor pull once again a huge success.
Despite 107-degree heat and having no outside power source at the last minute and all weekend, the pull went on with no noticeable difference to the crowd.
An extra big thanks to those who donated the use of their generators giving up power at home for a few hours to make the pull go on. Also, thanks to Cummins for the big generator they donated to help.

Leininger biased
There have been many times when, after reading one of Kevin Leininger’s biased and often disingenuous columns, that I have considered canceling my N-S subscription, which dates back to the mid-’40s.
The temptation was strong again when he wrote that those who were not conservatives lacked principles. What garbage! What chutzpah!
It’s easy to understand why Leininger’s columns, unlike any other of the paper’s employed columnists, carries the disclaimer, “This column is the commentary of the writer and does not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of The News-Sentinel.”
