A man was in critical condition and transported to a local hospital this afternoon following a two-vehicle crash in which he may have suffered some type of medical event before the collision.
The incident took place around 12:53 p.m., according to a news release from the Fort Wayne Police Department. Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Maplecrest Road and Alvarez Drive to investigate a two-vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers were told that a white Chrysler 300C was traveling on Maplecrest when it collided with a green Mazda that was turning left from Maplecrest onto Alvarez Drive.
There were no passengers in either vehicle and the driver of the Mazda was not injured, according to the release. The release also said that the driver of the Chrysler may have had a medical event prior to the crash, and that the even could have been a contributing factor in the collision.
Alcohol is not thought to be a factor, the release said.
Paramedics at the scene found the driver of the Chrysler to be unresponsive and transported him to a hospital. He was ruled to be in critical condition at the scene; his identity was not released.
The incident remains under investigation.
