Mechanic test-driving fire truck topples light pole in downtown Fort Wayne

Tuesday, July 24, 2012 - 5:32 pm

A Fort Wayne fire truck clipped a downtown light pole Tuesday afternoon, bringing the pole down on the truck and a car being driven by a student, a fire department spokeswoman said.

Stacey Fleming, a public information officer with the Fort Wayne Fire Department, said a mechanic was taking the truck out for a test drive after it had undergone some repairs at the department's shop. The truck apparently scraped the light pole while turning south onto Calhoun Street from Jefferson Boulevard, Fleming said.

The pole fell on top of the truck and also clipped a car being driven north by a student driver, Fleming said. No one was hurt in the accident, and it caused only minimal damage to both vehicles, she said.
