The shooting death of a Fort Wayne man early Tuesday morning has been ruled a homicide. Meanwhile, two teens involved in a separate shooting have been identified.
Robert Jackson, Jr., 43, died of a gunshot wound or wounds, according to the Allen County Coroner's Office. The office does not release how many times a victim was shot.
An autopsy was performed Tuesday afternoon at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center.
Jackson was struck by gunfire at around 4:11 a.m. in the 3900 block of Wayne Trace, according to Fort Wayne Police. He pronounced dead at the scene.
Jackson is the 21st homicide victim for Fort Wayne and Allen County in 2012.
His death remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the coroner's office and the county prosecutor's office.
An earlier, unrelated double shooting took place at around 2:43 a.m. in the area of 2100 Eden St.
According to the police department, officers had been to the area previously to investigate reports of unwanted individuals congregating in an apartment building within the Eden Green apartment complex.
Officers dispersed the crowd and departed, but shortly received notification of a shooting that took place in the same area.
Upon returning, officers found two men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. They have been identified as Marcus Q. Bibbs, 18, of Fort Wayne, who was reported to be in critical condition at the scene; and Mikal D. Montgomery, 17, of Fort Wayne, who was reported to be in serious condition at the scene. Both teens were taken to a local hospital by paramedics.
An initial investigation indicates that the teens were shot by another person. No arrests have been made in the case.
The shootings remain under investigation by the police department, the prosecutor's opffice, and the coroner's office.
