Two men held on burglary, theft charges

Tuesday, July 24, 2012 - 12:01 am

Two men have been charged for their alleged roles in an attempted theft of a cash register.

Travis U. Goss, 50, of 6000 block of Radcliff Drive, and Trenton T. Dixie, 23, of the 4500 Bowser Ave., were both charged with burglary and theft, Class C felonies, according to Allen Superior Court documents.

The charges stem from an alleged incident that occurred at the Turtle Creek Food Market on July 18. According to court documents, the two men acted in concert to break into the Food Mart with the intent to take the cash register.

According to the affidavit for probable cause, around 1:09 a.m. on July 19, Fort Wayne Police officers responded to the food mart in response to an alarm. While the two officers were walking around the building, they heard a loud crash. One of the officers went to the west side of the building and waited by the south corner, where two men allegedly came into view.

The officer told the men to get down on the ground, according to the affidavit. Goss immediately complied, while Dixie allegedly kept walking and asked if the officer meant him. After several commands Dixie complied.

According to court documents, the officer checked the building and discovered a door partially open on the southeast side. Near the door was a cash register, on the ground. The register was lying about 40 feet from the two men.

Video footage from the establishment allegedly showed the two men, with Goss carrying bolt cutters. Both men are currently in Allen County Jail.
