Noble County lawyer jailed on drug charges

Thursday, July 26, 2012 - 8:09 am

Noble County police arrested a suspended local attorney Wednesday on charges he had methamphetamine and other drugs.

Jon A. Criss, 43, faces a felony count of possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor charges stemming from the alleged possession of marijuana and synthetic drugs. He also was charged with a felony count of maintaining a common nuisance.

Officers with the Noble County Sheriff's Department and area SWAT members arrested Criss without incident Wednesday night while serving a search warrant at his home in the 8000 block of County Road 550 East, according to the sheriff's Facebook page. Criss was being held without bond until his first court appearance.

Police went to Criss's home after receiving a tip from the public, the sheriff's department said in a news release. Noble County Prosecutor Steven Clouse had earlier asked the public for help finding Criss.

Criss was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 1994 but had his law license suspended June 22, Clouse said in a statement. Internet searches show someone matching Criss's name had a law office in South Bend at one time.
