On Thursday, Wellspring Interfaith Social Services' Summer Day Camp held its year-end celebration picnic at Foster Park.
The seven-week camp, which began June 13, had more than 575 youngsters participate in various learning and enrichment activities, Executive Director Frank Zirille said in an email.
The Wellspring day camp is one of the few free summer camps for youth in Fort Wayne, Zirille said. The camp also offers free transportation. Lunch was provided through the Fort Wayne Community Schools free lunch program. The camp was held 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. weekdays in space provided by four downtown church congregations — Plymouth United Church of Christ, St. Mary Catholic Church, Trinity English Lutheran Church and Trinity Episcopal Church. Kids participated in soccer, dance, music, yoga, reading and field trips.
