CARMEL – If former Vice President Dan Quayle returns to Indiana, it won't be to his former Carmel home.

Carmel city officials have signed off on plans to demolish the home just north of Indianapolis. The Indianapolis Star reported Wednesday that new owner Doug Rose plans to build a home on the land.

Rose recently held a fundraiser for Democratic Senate candidate Joe Donnelly. Rose had been a supporter of U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar and is one of the highest-profile defectors from the GOP in Indiana's Senate race.

Quayle lives in Arizona with his wife. Their son Benjamin was elected in 2010 to represent Arizona's 3rd District in Congress.
