A Fort Wayne man who pleaded guilty to driving with four children tied to the hood of his car earlier this year was sentenced Friday in Allen Superior Court.
Aaron Stefanski pleaded guilty in July to three felony counts of child neglect and endangerment and a felony charge of operating while intoxicated. The plea did not include 10 more assorted misdemeanors and infractions, and all stemmed from an incident on May 7 when a caller told police that Stefanski had strapped four children to the hood of his car and was driving south on Fairfield Avenue, according to court documents.
The children were 4, 5, 6 and 7 years old at the time.
Stefanski was sentenced to what amounts to four years, all of which are to be served on home detention. He received two sentences of three years each for felony child neglect and endangerment, with two years suspended on each count. Those were to run concurrently, according to online documents.
He also received two sentences of one year each, which are to run concurrent to each other but consecutive to the other sentences. The one-year sentences were for another count of felony child neglect and endangerment and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a person under 18 years of age as a passenger. A total of 182 days were suspended for those counts.
This means that Stefanski is scheduled to serve about a year and a half on home detention.
