Fasick was named to the all-star team

Saturday, August 4, 2012 - 1:16 am

Local hockey player A.J. Fasick recently completed a week playing on the Midwest Major All Star Hockey team that will participate in Hockey Night In Boston Showcase.

The Midwest team went 5-1 for the round-robin portion of the tournament. In the quarterfinals, the squad beat Mid-Atlantic 4-0 and Fasick scored a goal and an assist. In the semi finals, the team lost to Middlesex/Merrimack 5-4 despite Fasick scoring a goal and two assists.

For the tournament the forward led the team with eight assists and three goals for 11 points and was selected for the tournament's all-star team which won 6-3 as Fasick had two more assists.

Fasick, 17, will be a senior at Blackhawk Christian this year. He played with the Fort Wayne Federals last season.

When Fasick was 5 years old, he lost two-thirds of his left foot in a lawn-mowing accident. While making a turn, his father had not seen his son run up to the mower. Doctors originally thought they might have to amputate the foot above the ankle, but Fasick underwent three surgeries in four days.
