Thank you, Wal-Mart
I want to say a huge thank you to Wal-Mart. As volunteers for Joni and Friends Disability Ministries’ Wheels For The World, a team of us collect used manual wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and canes. After collecting about 160 wheelchairs and other equipment, I was then responsible to arrange transportation for all this to Plainfield Correctional Center near Indianapolis.
Prisoners there refurbish the wheelchairs, making them almost like brand new. Wheelchairs then are shipped overseas to be fitted to people who cannot afford them. I have been fortunate to get to see the expressions on faces of people receiving them. A man getting his first wheelchair in Chile said, “I feel like a child at Christmas!”
Thank you, Wal-Mart, for so graciously providing a semi-truck, fuel and a driver who donated his time to transport these.
