INDIANAPOLIS — Police say a child that darted into the path of a truck on an access road at the Indiana State Fairgrounds is in serious condition at an Indianapolis hospital.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Rich Myers says 4-year-old Madalynn Gembala of Buchanan, Mich., was walking with her mother when she broke free and was struck by the right front tire of a pickup truck driven by 49-year-old Robert Ingalls of Mason, Mich.

Myers says there are no initial signs Ingalls violated any traffic laws. He and the girl's parents are employed by the midway at the State Fair.

The accident was the second involving serious injury this week at the fair. A stagecoach overturned Sunday, sending five people to a hospital for treatment.
