Friday, August 17, 2012 - 12:01 am

Health department offers travel info

The Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health has announced its comprehensive Travel Clinic provides immunizations such as rabies and yellow fever, prescription medications for malaria and typhoid, and other information about the health-related risks when traveling abroad.

Travel appointments are available Monday-Friday. To schedule, call 449-3514. There is a cost for the vaccines plus a $20 consultation fee when prescribing anti-malarial drugs.

For more information, visit the Travel Clinic page on the Department of Health's website at www.allencountyhealth.com/divisions/.

The health department also suggested these tips for travelers:

•Set up a pre-travel consultation with your health care provider, at least four to six weeks before travel.

•Follow the advice of your health care provider by getting any shots or medicines that are recommended before you leave.

•Be careful of what you eat and drink while you are gone.

•Use sunscreen and insect repellent as directed.

•Respect your host country and its people by following local laws and customs.

New book

Local resident Suzanne Rogers has written a new book, “Being Bob,” about a Haflinger horse trying to fit in with the rest of his herd. It is available for $14.95 at Amazon.com.

Rogers will hold a book-signing 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Monogram Shoppe for this book and her first book, “My Mother Can Do Anything!”

CampusLink returns

CampusLink, a free shuttle service between IPFW and Ivy Tech Community College-Northeast, resumes 7:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Monday-Friday during the academic calendar.

The route includes stops at IPFW and its student housing, Ivy Tech's Coliseum and North campuses and shopping and residential areas north and south of campus. Changes to the stops at IPFW include the addition of a stop in the circle drive at Walb Student Union, and moving the Engineering Building stop to the end of the east wing at Kettler Hall. At Ivy Tech, the stop at the College Services Building was dropped and combined with the stop at Harshman Hall.

Free shuttles do not operate on weekends or when students are not on campus. For complete route details, go to www.fwcitilink.com/cam.

For more information on campusLink or the bus pass program, contact Betsy Kachmar at 432-4977 or email bek@fwcitilink.com.
