INDIANAPOLIS — State officials say Indiana may have to close enrollment next year on an innovative health plan for low-income adults.
That's because a division of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services has only offered to approve a one-year extension of the Healthy Indiana Plan, extending it through the end of 2013. The state Family and Social Services Administration had been seeking a multi-year extension.
FSSA Secretary Michael Gargano says the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services also has not answered questions about using the HIP to serve those who may be eligible under a Medicaid expansion if the state decides to do so in 2014.
Gargano says he is disappointed that after waiting two years the state still doesn't have an answer about the long-term future of HIP.
