Snider junior Donavin O’Day sacked Bishop Luers’ quarterback Quinn Cook on the final play of the game to give the Panthers a 10-7 victory over the Class 2A No. 1 Knights on Friday night.
Bishop Luers had drove to the 13 yard line and was looking to score a touchdown and not settle for a field goal. But the Panthers’ defense that had stepped up all night came up with one more huge play.
With the Knights’ field goal unit awaiting to take the field, Cook took the snap with 10 seconds left and looked downfield. O’Day battled through the offensive line and dragged him down.
There was not enough time for another play.
Snider took a 7-0 lead in the first half on a 4-yard touchdown run by Nic Reese. Josh Spitnale added a field goal in the second quarter.
Bishop Luers’ scored its lone touchdown on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Cook to Mike Rogers with just over five minutes left in the game.
Snider ends a two-game losing streak against the Knights.
