Saturday, August 25, 2012 - 6:48 am

It didn't take long for the IPFW women's volleyball team to get its first victory of the season.

IPFW in less than 75 minutes swept Murray State 25-12, 25-14, 25-8 to open its season and the IPFW Invitational on Friday at the Gates Center.

Outside attacker Emily Spencer, the 2011 Summit League Newcomer of the Year, had a match-high 13 kills in the victory. In addition, IPFW outside attacker Kendall Wienkes had nine kills, while middle attacker Jessie Manwaring added eight kills.

IPFW had at least a .400 attack percentage in all three sets as it out-hit Murray State .465 to .065. Murray State failed to hit above zero in two of the three sets.

All-conference libero Tessa McGill led all players in the victory with 28 digs.

IPFW will conclude its home tournament Saturday with matches against Cleveland State at 1 p.m. and Kent State at 7 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Gates Center.
