WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue University plans to honor graduate Neil Armstrong's life and achievements as the first man to walk on the moon with a campus memorial service.
Many people have left flowers and notes at the statue depicting Armstrong outside the Purdue engineering building named for him since he died Saturday at age 82. He graduated from Purdue in 1955 with an aeronautical engineering degree.
Purdue aerospace engineering major Eugene Oh tells the Journal & Courier that he admires Armstrong for his dedication in helping reach the moon.
Purdue graduate Jason King tells WLFI-TV that he brought his young daughter to Armstrong's statue because she wants to travel to the moon someday.
The campus memorial service is set for 5:30 p.m. outside the Neil A. Armstrong Hall of Engineering.
