IPFW shutout to start soccer season

Mastodons blanked 3-0 by Detroit

Monday, August 27, 2012 - 12:01 am

IPFW opened its men’s soccer season on a sour note on Sunday, as the Mastodons were shutout at by Detroit 3-0.

The Titans (1-1-0) wasted little time in finding the back of the net, as they scored just seven minutes into the match.

The Mastodons threatened with a pair of shots and a corner kick over the next five minutes, but could not connect in the half.

Detroit took an early 2-0 advantage in the second half when Kevin Pinkos booted in a shot at the 46-minute mark. The Titans got their final tally at the 77-minute mark.

IPFW attempted seven shots in the game, with just two on goal. Detroit put up eight shot attempts and five of those were on goal.

Jackson Tooke and Nate Shipman each had two shots for the Mastodons.

Mastodon sophomore Brandon Cloutier spent the first 86 minutes of the game in the goal, while Will Brown played the last four minutes and each picked up a save.

IPFW will travel to Western Michigan on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
