Local resident receives award

Lt. Governor Becky Skillman presented Elaine Cowen of New Haven with the Golden Hoosier Award. For more than 30 years, Cowen has initiated, developed and promoted hospice care.

Mad Anthonys raises funds

A community-matching program and the Mad Anthonys Charity Classic helped raise $740,000 for expansion and upgrades to the Mad Anthonys Children's Hope House.

LSS receives vinyl siding

Habitat for Humanity donated eight boxes of vinyl siding to Lutheran Social Services of Indiana to side a home in Silver Lake.

Giveaway Sept. 29

East Chestnut Church of Christ's Focus on Recovery Ministry will hold a communitywide free giveaway noon-5 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Memorial Park pavilion. The church needs clothing for adults and children in all sizes, school supplies and clothing for children, and financial donations. Arts grants awarded

Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne, in partnership with the Indiana Arts Commission, awarded grants totaling $178,602 to these organizations: Artlink, Audiences Unlimited, Bach Collegium, Children's Choir of Huntington County, Creative Arts Council of Wells County, Embassy Theatre, Fort Wayne Ballet, Fort Wayne Children's Choir, Fort Wayne Cinema Center, Fort Wayne Civic Theatre, Fort Wayne Dance Collective, Fort Wayne Youtheatre, Foundation for Art and Music in Elementary Education, Heartland Chamber Chorale, LaFontaine Arts Council and Unity Performing Arts Foundation.

These organizations received 2013 Arts Project Support grants: Berne Community Development Corp., Bluffton Parks & Recreation, Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation, Harold W. McMillen Center for Health Education, IPFW, Memorial Park Middle School, Mihsihkinaahkwa Pow Wow, North Adams Community Schools, Northeast Indiana Public Radio, Roanoke Beatification Foundation Arts Council, Swiss Heritage Society, TekVenture Inc., The History Center, United Way of Adams County and University of Saint Francis.

Food program for child care

The Early Childhood Alliance is coordinating the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) to ensure nutritious meals and snacks for children in child-care programs. Licensed and certified legally exempt family child-care providers may be eligible for the program, which can help offset food costs. Kids benefit from Walmart grant

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne received a $25,000 grant from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation that will help support transportation and support for Boys and Girls Club activities.
