INDIANAPOLIS — Hurricane Isaac's remnants could drop more than seven inches of rain on Indiana, but forecasters say that rain would fall over a five-day period and not in a single deluge.

The National Weather Service says rain from the storm is expected to reach Indiana on Friday and linger through Tuesday. More than seven inches of rain are forecast for much of southern Indiana and the western and central counties. Lesser amounts will fall to the north and south.

Weather Service meteorologist Brad Herold says the heaviest rains are expected Saturday night into Sunday. Between one and three inches are expected, with heavier amounts possible in isolated areas.

Herold says Indiana's drought-lowered lakes and rivers and parched soils will likely absorb some of the storm's downpours but that flooding is possible.
