IPFW finishes impressive fifth at golf event

Tackett, Imel pace Mastodons

IPFW rode the hot golf games of E.J. Tackett and Drew Imel on Monday to finish in the top half of the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate golf tournament, which was hosted by Missouri in Verona, N.Y.

The Mastodons carded a third-round total of 298, which gave the squad a three-round total of 891, good for fifth of the 13 teams in the field.

Host Missouri took home the team title with a two-day score of 842. Louisville (861), Memphis (866), and Central Connecticut State (890) each finished ahead of IPFW, while Villanova (897), Cleveland State (900), Loyola (901), Army (910), Canisius (920), Delaware (923), Cincinnati (926), and Saint Peter's (927) finished behind the Mastodons.

Tackett carded a two-under 70 on the final round and finished with an even-par 216 for the two days, as he finished seventh overall.

Imel was one stroke back and finished eighth with a one-under 71 on Monday and a total score of 217.

Jacob Groninger shot a final-round 78, giving him a 229 (+13), placing in a tie of 37th, while Bruno Carvalho shot a final-round 82 for a three-round total of 232 (+16) rounding out the scoring members of the squad.

Drake Devereaux shot a 79, as a scoring player in the third round. Playing as an individual, Logan Barker carded a final-round score of 85, putting him 35 strokes over par for the three rounds.

IPFW will compete in the Indiana Wolf Run Intercollegiate, hosted at the Wolf Run Golf Club in Bloomington on September 15 and 16.
