Three people were shot and a medic was injured early Sunday morning after a passing car fired upon an ambulance that was carrying a stabbing victim and a car that contained the victim's friends and family. Fort Wayne Police have four suspects in custody, according to police spokesman Jeremy Webb.
According to Webb, police were called at 2:58 a.m. to Piere's Entertainment Center, 5629 St. Joe Road, after a man was stabbed inside during an altercation. Medics treated the victim, who was not identified, and put him in an ambulance to take him to a hospital. He was in stable condition.
At 3:15 a.m., the ambulance was in the 2200 block of St. Joe Center Road, while a black Chevy Impala carrying the victim's friends and family followed it.
A white passenger car with tinted windows then opened fire on the Impala and the ambulance, according to Webb. All three occupants of the car were shot and stopped at the Marathon gas station at Coldwater and Washington Center roads, where they were met by medical staff. All three victims, who were not identified, were in stable condition.
The ambulance received multiple shots as the white vehicle sped passed it while opening fire, Webb said. A medic in the ambulance was cut by glass that was shot out. The medic was in fair condition.
The white vehicle then turned off, but the ambulance driver was unable to give a description of its direction of travel, Webb said. A suspect vehicle was later found by an Allen County Sheriff's Department officer who attempted to stop it. The vehicle fled and a pursuit ensued, with the vehicle stopped at Jefferson Boulevard and Fairfield Avenue, Webb said. The four suspects who were in the vehicle were arrested.
Multiple crime scenes were processed. Potential witnesses were interviewed along with the victims and suspects.
This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office.
