Putting three runners inside of the top nine overall in the field, the IPFW Mastodons dropped three contests at the 2012 IPFW Cross Country Invitational, which was scored as dual meets against each of the teams.Overall, Amaya Ayers took home the top spot for IPFW, placing sixth overall in a time of 18:58.25 for the 5,000-meter course. Julia Jeszenszky and Kayla Boyes placed seventh and ninth in the field, crossing the finish line in times of 19:04.15 and 19:19.79, each.

Jordan Tomecek ran the 3.1 miles in a time of 19:43.49, good for 16th place, as Anna Reibs rounded out the scoring portion of the Mastodon pack with a 21st place finish in a time of 19:58.24. Reibs, a freshman, narrowly edged out classmates Kaitlyn Simmons (22nd/20:00.00) and Andrea Bell (23rd/20:03.79), with Rebecca Jacobs taking 30th in a time of 20:36.73.

The way the meet was scored, a dual meet against each of the other teams, the Mastodons dropping two of three "competitions" and tying another.

Ball State toppled IPFW 30-to-25, while Oakland bested the Mastodons 31-24. IPFW and IUPUI ended in a tie, as each team scored 28 points in the dual meet setting.

The Mastodons return to action next weekend, competing at the Indiana Intercollegiates hosted by Indiana State University in Terre Haute.
