Taylor University to build $10 million dorm at Upland campus

Monday, September 10, 2012 - 3:33 pm

Taylor University will start work immediately on construction of a new 150-bed, $10 million residence hall on the south side of the campus in Upland, south of Fort Wayne, the university announced today

The residence hall is expected to be completed by the start of the 2013-2014 academic year, a news release said.

"In the past 20 years, our enrollment has grown by nearly 200 students; in the meantime, we have added 100 beds," Taylor President Eugene B. Habecker said in the news release. "As a result, a number of our junior and senior students have lived in authorized off-campus housing.

"Given our historic emphasis on making disciples and educating the whole person, it has long been our wish that our incoming freshmen could benefit from the spiritual maturity of our upperclassmen," Habecker said.

The new residence hall will stand near existing residence facilities of Wengatz, Olson, Bergwall, English and Gerig halls, the news release said. It will connect to Gerig Hall via an atrium.
