It's almost hard to believe that 11 years ago our world was turned upside down as those four hijacked planes were converted into killing machines.
I read a survey recently that stated the 9/11 terrorist attack was the most memorable TV moment(s) during the past 50 years. The online survey of 1,077 adults was conducted Feb. 15-17 by Sony Electronics and the Nielsen television research company.
The survey rated events not only by viewership, but if viewers remembered where they were, who they were with and if they talked about events they had seen with other people.
The Sept. 11 attack was ranked nearly twice as impactful as the second-ranked moment, Hurricane Katrina coverage in 2005.
Rounding out the top five were the 1995 O.J. Simpson verdict, the 1986 Challenger space shuttle explosion and last year's death of Osama bin Laden.
As you may have noticed, regular TV programming did not rank in the top five.
While I am not a fan of reality TV, which I feel is often contrived for ratings (like Kim Kardashian's wedding), there is something to be said for real-life events, the unscripted moments that really do shape our lives.
