Bishop Luers fires football coach Matt Lindsay

Monday, September 17, 2012 - 5:30 pm

Matt Lindsay has been fired as Bishop Luers High School athletic director and football coach.

The school stated in a release that his employment was terminated "as a result of his violations of school and Diocesan policies, and his violations of his employment contract obligations."

Lindsay has been with the school for 33 years, including 26 years as the head coach. He has also served the school for several years as athletic director. He led the football team to nine state titles, including the last three seasons.

He would not comment on the reasons for his firing.

“The only thing I can say is that the 33 years I spent at Luers have been awesome,” Lindsay said. “I love the people and I wish them all the best. It's been a great ride.”

Lindsay was placed on administrative leave last Thursday, the school said in a release, and he was fired Sunday. His son Kyle took over as the team's interim head football coach. Other administrators had temporarily assumed his athletic-director responsibilities.

Luers has not announced what it intends to do with Lindsay's positions moving forward. Nor would the school elaborate on the reasons for his firing.

"I don't have anything to say," Bishop Luers Principal Mary Keefer said.
