CUMBERLAND — A 68-year-old central Indiana man has been arrested after allegedly confessing to the bludgeoning death of his wife.

Police in Cumberland say Chun Shin was being held at the Marion County Jail in Indianapolis on a preliminary charge of murder. Jail records did not indicate if he had an attorney.

Cumberland Police Chief Mike Crooke says the Korean immigrant approached an an off-duty Marion County sheriff's deputy at a gas station Saturday and tried to describe in his limited English that he had killed his wife. Crooke says officers followed Shin to his home in the town straddling the Marion-Hendricks county line, and they found the body of 57-year-old Youngsook Shin.

Crooke says through a Korean interpreter, Shin confessed to killing the woman.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
