Chemical fire in Indianapolis extinguished

Sunday, September 23, 2012 - 1:14 pm

INDIANAPOLIS — Firefighters have extinguished a two-alarm fire at a chemical storage facility on the west side of Indianapolis.

Lt. Craig Peoples of the Wayne Township Fire Department says several firefighters have undergone chemical decontamination steps as a precaution, but no harmful materials have turned up on them.

WIBC-FM and The Indianapolis Star report the fire began before 9 a.m. today at Heritage Environmental Services just north of Indianapolis International Airport and took more than an hour to extinguish.

Peoples says chemicals were contained in the building.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

No injuries have been reported.
