“Celebrity boutique” features beauty supplies, distinct look.

Everyone is a celebrity at the House of Neco Salon, a multicultural business that is expanding its location at 3820 Illinois Road to include a celebrity beauty boutique.

With two large blue chairs in the shape of high heels in the lobby and individual styling cubicles, House of Neco truly caters to the “celebrity.”

The boutique will feature beauty supplies “that cater to our hair care needs,” said Hafeezah McBride, manager and stylist at the salon. “We have a vast variety of people and it doesn't matter what ethnicity they are … for example, my hair will need more moisture and oil, so we will have shampoos and conditioners for hair like mine.”

One “celebrity” client, Tashawna James, 24, has only visited House of Neco once, but said she “looked forward to going back” since it is hard to find a salon for her hair type. “It needs special stuff for when I get extensions or just to make it easier to manage on my own,” James said.

A little over a year ago Neco Beasley and Joyce Spence, co-owners of the salon, moved their two downtown locations, including Beasley's original salon on Hanna Street, to Illinois Road, which McBride said “was the best business decision (they) ever made.”

Currently at 1,900 square feet and seven employees, the expansion will add 2,200 square feet and double the number of stylists, both men and women.

House of Neco sits next to Burlington Coat Factory with no other neighboring stores.

Beasley wants to use her 18 years of styling experience, including a certification from Ravenscroft Beauty College on Stellhorn Road, to be a local powerhouse for multicultural hair styling that is hard to find.

Beasley contracted Strebig Construction for the expansion.

“They are very strategic for our needs … and are not just about money.”

Beasley expects the grand opening of the boutique to be Oct. 15 with raffles, food and giveaways.
