Shopping column: Stroll through park and bid on fresh art

Auction benefits Artlink, and Covington Plaza also has art at special event.

Artlink's Wet Paint Auction is 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sunday at Lakeside Park, 1401 Lake Ave.

More than 20 artists will paint in the park. You can place your bid throughout the morning in Pavilion No. 2. Bidding ends at 1:30 p.m., and the highest bidder gets to take the still-wet artwork home. Proceeds benefit Artlink's exhibition schedule.

Covington Plaza holds special event

Covington Plaza is hosting A Taste of Covington 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, a combination art fair and sidewalk sale.

Local artists will be stationed around the plaza selling their newest works, including Nicole Moore (paintings), Kristy Jo Beber (pottery), Laura Brandenburg (pottery and jewelry) and more.

In addition:

•The Olive Twist will have food samples made with its olive oil and balsamic vinegars.

•Cindy Friend Design Boutique will sell handbags and jewelry discounted by 20 percent.

•The Monogram Shoppe and more … will host a book-signing with author Suzanne Rogers, who penned the book “Being Bob.” The shop also will have its annual Byers' Choice Caroler open house with a drawing for a free caroler.

•Merle Norman will offer complimentary steam facials and makeovers.

•Shoppers will get a 20 percent discount on select merchandise at B. Mitchel Jewelry.

•Christopher James Menswear will also offer 20 percent off one in-stock item.

Covington Plaza is at 6382 W. Jefferson Blvd.

Made in America

Speaking of Christopher James Menswear in Covington Plaza, the store is celebrating a Made in America Day noon-7 p.m. Oct. 4 by showcasing U.S. made products.

The following vendors will participate: Bill's Khakis, Wolverine 1000 Mile Boots, Remy leather coats, Agave denim and W. Kleinberg custom belts. Representatives from these companies will show their latest arrivals and discuss the value of buying “Made in the USA” items.

Register to win khakis, boots and a belt. No purchase is necessary.

Teachers appreciated

Retailer dressbarn will host a special Teacher Appreciation event Oct. 6, with teachers receiving a 20 percent discount off their entire purchase of regular-priced merchandise. Teachers who visit a dressbarn store during the event will get personal attention and fashion tips.

In Fort Wayne, dressbarn is at Orchard Crossing, 1034 Thomas Road.

Jewelry show

Macy's fine jewelry at Glenbrook Square will host a trunk show 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday. The La Bella collection is recognized for its use of colored gemstones and one-of-a-kind creations. Information: 484-1561, Ext. 3497. Reservations are recommended.
