A fight at a VFW post ended with a man in critical condition after being shot early this morning, according to Fort Wayne Police. At 1:52 a.m., police responded to the VFW in the 2400 block of Winter Street in reference to a large fight inside the business, said FWPD spokesman John Chambers in a news release. Someone there had called 911 and said he or she heard a possible gunshot during the altercation.

Officers found several people outside the business, but did not find a shooting victim. A short time later, police received a call that said a male subject had arrived at a hospital suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, Chambers said in the release.

The victim was listed in critical condition when he arrived at the hospital.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending family notification and no suspect information or arrests had been made early this morning, according to Chambers.

Investigators said the victim was shot at the VFW on Winter and taken to a local hospital. This morning, investigators were continuing to collect information from possible witnesses to determine more details about what happened.

This incident remains under investigation by the FWPD and the Allen County prosecutor’s office.
