Tuesday, October 2, 2012 - 2:24 pm

The Indiana State Police Fort Wayne Post collected 700 pounds of medications during Saturday's fifth nationwide “Prescription Drug Take Back” initiative. The event is sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration to prevent prescription drug abuse and theft.

Collection sites were set up nationwide for expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs to be turned in for destruction. This program is intended for liquid and pill medications.

Statewide the ISP collected 2,319.5 pounds of unused or expired medications. During the previous Drug Take Back held on April 28, 1,512.5 pounds were collected at state police posts.
