The Star of Auburn reports county highway superintendent Eric Patton says repairs are estimated to cost about $115,000 and the damage won't get worse during the wait.
The one-lane bridge about 20 miles north of Fort Wayne has been closed to traffic since last week when the truck tore down several 6-by-6-inch crossbeams, roof supports and metal tie rods.
A deputy arrested the driver, Gerard Hudson, 46, of Waukegan, Ill., on a felony charge of criminal mischief and driving while his license was suspended. A bypass bridge was finished in 2003 for heavy traffic. but Hudson said he was following the route on his GPS that took him through the bridge.
The bridge was built in 1873 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.
