DeKalb County man arrested in Fort Wayne in connection with Ohio Islamic center fire

Wednesday, October 3, 2012 - 8:53 am

A DeKalb County man accused of setting fire to an Islamic center in Ohio was awaiting extradition after being arrested Tuesday in Fort Wayne.

Randy T. Linn, 52, of St. Joe, is charged in Ohio with two counts of arson, one count of aggravated burglary, and one count of carrying a concealed weapon, according to Indiana State Police spokesman Sgt. Ron Galaviz.

At around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Linn was arrested without incident in a parking lot near this workplace in the 7600 block of Opportunity Drive in Fort Wayne, Galaviz said.

He was taken into custody on warrants by Indiana State Police Troopers Don Curtin and Justin Snyder. They arrested him along with federal agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Federal Bureau of Investigation and , the United States Marshal's Service, along with members of the Allen County Drug Task Force and authorities from Ohio.

Linn was taken to and incarcerated in the Allen County Jail pending extradition to Ohio.

The blaze broke out Sunday at the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo and caused both smoke and water damage on the second floor. Shane Cartmill, state fire marshal spokesman, told The Toledo Blade that investigators believe the suspect is the same person captured by a surveillance camera outside the center.

The building's gold dome is visible for miles and is a landmark in northwest Ohio.
