Three escape unhurt from E. Suttenfield fire

Tuesday, October 9, 2012 - 5:31 pm

Three people in a home on East Suttenfield Avenue escaped a fire Tuesday afternoon without being hurt, but the house was significantly damaged.

Fort Wayne firefighters were called to the fire at 125 E. Suttenfield Ave. at 1:48 p.m., arrived at 1:50 p.m. and said it was under control at 2:22 p.m. Those inside the house were already safely outside when firefighters arrived, the Fort Wayne Fire Department reported.

Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the front porch area of the house. Fire crews began an immediate attack on the fire, but the fire did extend up the exterior of the house and into the attic area. They report that the house had moderate interior damage, but the fire did not spread to neighboring houses in the closely packed neighborhood.

The house had moderate fire and water damage, with heavy smoke damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
