INDIANAPOLIS — Federal health officials say Indiana now has 12 cases of fungal meningitis linked to a tainted back pain medication.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday on its website that another case had been added to the 11 known previously. There have been no Indiana deaths.
Indiana's cases involve patients at six Indiana health facilities that received a recalled steroid produced by a specialty pharmacy in Massachusetts.
Joe Dippel, 67, of Evansville says he got two of the possibly tainted shots at St. Mary's Surgicare Cross Pointe clinic in the Ohio River city. He's awaiting results of a spinal tap but says he isn't really worried.
The outbreak has now spread to at least 119 cases in 10 states. At least 11 have died.
The disease isn't contagious.
