17-year-old in serious condition after legs trapped under semi

Thursday, October 11, 2012 - 7:21 am

A 17-year-old from Kendallville was seriously injured after his legs became trapped under a semi-tractor trailer.

The Kendallville Police Department was called at 12:55 p.m. Wednesday to U.S. 6 and Commerce Drive. They found Andrew J. Harman had been riding a 2011 Honda Ruckus scooter westbound on U.S. 6 when he struck an eastbound semi trailer that was turning onto Commerce, according to a police department news release. The teen's legs were trapped beneath the 2002 Freightliner, driven by a 77-year-old White Pigeon, Mich., man, for about 1 to 2 minutes.

Harman was taken to Parkview Regional Hospital by Samaritan helicopter.

The crash remains under investigation.
