An outdoor aquatic center is coming to the Jorgensen Family YMCA next summer. The YMCA branch, 10313 Aboite Center Road, made the announcement Tuesday. The $1.8 million project is expected to be in operation by summer 2013. It will feature six 25-foot lap lanes, beach entry with a splash-zone play area, toddler pool with a Cascades Discovery Fountain, zip line, snack shop and easy access from both inside and outside the Y facility.

Construction plans will include a playground, picnic area, water slide and climbing wall.

The new center is being funded by a donation from the Parkview Physicians Group and will be called the Parkview Physicians Group Outdoor Aquatics Center.

"This outdoor aquatic center will enhance our ability to develop character in young people, help seniors prolong their independence, and support health in spirit, mind and body for people of all ages and from all walks of life," said Martin Pastura, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne.
