INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels' official state portrait will soon be hanging at the Statehouse.

Daniels' official portrait is to be unveiled Tuesday during a public ceremony at the Indiana Statehouse. It was painted by Lafayette native Richard Halstead, whose artwork hangs in the Smithsonian Institution and other galleries. Halstead was one of 43 artists who applied to paint the governor's portrait.

Historically, the portrait of the immediate past governor is displayed in the lobby of the governor's office. Daniels' second term as governor ends in January, when he'll become Purdue University's new president.

The Indiana State Museum manages the portrait process and the collection of governors' portraits.
