Parkview Field gets new turf

Thursday, October 18, 2012 - 6:33 am

The Motz Group of Cincinnati has been in town for the past few days replacing the blue grass at Parkview Field.

The installers were hard at work Wednesday morning. Chad Lavender of the Motz Group said he thought the job would be completed Thursday. The company is installing 89,000 square feet of blue grass turf.

The former field had to be replaced because the team discovered an invasive grass, called poa annua, soon after the sod was first laid ahead of the TinCaps' 2009 debut season. Replacing the turf will cost about $140,000. The city will pay $90,000 from a special fund set up to help pay for improvements at Parkview Field, while the team will pitch in the remaining one-third.
