Martin has a lengthy criminal history including carrying a handgun without a permit, according to police.

Fort Wayne Police have been alerted to the possibility that an Ohio murder suspect might be in the city.

Mercer County (Ohio) Sheriff's Department said authorities are searching for Daniel C. Martin, 40, in the shooting death of a woman Thursday morning in Rockford, according to a news release. Melinda S. Shinn, 26, was killed at 10:43 a.m. Thursday in a mobile home. Later that night, police began searching for Martin in connection with her death and a murder warrant has been issued for him.

According to our media partner, WANE, NewsChannel 15, Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey said authorities searching for the red 1998 Ford Explorer that Martin was driving learned that it was found in Fort Wayne on Thursday night. A Fort Wayne Police Department spokeswoman could not confirm the information Friday afternoon and a Mercer County Sheriff's Department representative referred The News-Sentinel to a news release that didn't detail a connection to Fort Wayne. However, according to scanner traffic at around noon Friday, the FWPD was notified that Martin might be in Fort Wayne.
