New shoes for 1,000

Students also received socks and school supplies

Friday, November 9, 2012 - 3:01 pm

About 1,000 Fort Wayne Community Schools students received new shoes, socks and school supplies Friday through the work of volunteers and foundations. Each child had his or her feet washed by a volunteer, a central part of the approach used by Samaritan's Feet in distributing shoes and making children and their families feel “loved, valued and encouraged,” according to Samaritan's Feet. Performance Services, an Indianapolis design and engineering company, and Office Depot Foundation, also cooperated in the event at North Side High School, 475 E. State Blvd. Office Depot Foundation donated school supplies and a sackpack for each child. Many student volunteers from Snider and Wayne high schools, as well as Ivy Tech, also helped in the event.
