Train reportedly kills female victim

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and coroner’s office were investigating the death of a female victim along the CSX railroad tracks on the east side of Lake Wawasee early Tuesday morning. Sheriff’s deputies, along with emergency personnel from Syracuse, responded at 2:40 a.m. after receiving information that a CSX train had struck a pedestrian. Mike Wilson of the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office pronounced the individual dead at the scene from blunt-force trauma.
Sheriff’s and coroner’s officials have not identified the victim and are still investigating the case.
