Berry scored a team-high 17 points Sunday to lead the men's basketball team to a 78-51 win over Grambling State in the Cardinals' season opener. The Lafayette native needed just six shots from the floor, all of which came from 3-point range, to score his 17 points. He knocked down four of those treys and also finished a perfect 5-for-5 at the free throw line.
A preseason All-MAC West Division selection, Berry added two rebounds, two assists and one steal in the Ball State win. He made key shots early in the game, scoring 14 of his points over the first 20 minutes to help the Cardinals build a halftime lead that they expanded over the second half.
It is the second career player of the week award for Berry, who was also named the top performer in the MAC West once last year. His 17 points Sunday were the most by a West Division player on the season's opening weekend, while his four 3-pointers were one shy of his career high.
Berry was one of five Cardinals to score in double figures in the season-opening win. Marcus Posley scored 12 and Majok Majok finished with 11, while Zach Fields and Chris Bond added 10 each.
Ball State will host Wofford at 7 p.m. on Friday at Worthen Arena.
